Lockdown learning still leads to exam success
Great success in the Wood Science Exams has been announced this week, for students studying with training provider TFT Woodexperts Ltd, as the latest results for the Level 4 Certificate in Wood Science and Timber Technology have been declared. Nine candidates from across the UK Timber Sector, representing Arbor Forest Products, James Latham plc, Palmer Timber and Russwood, together with an independent flooring consultant, achieved their qualifications after one of the most difficult years ever for training and education: which for some of the candidates began almost two years ago and then was interrupted by the Covid pandemic.
After a modified “blended learning” programme, involving 3 tutors and comprising of both virtual and face-to-face tutorials, the candidates sat two intensive examination papers and gained 3 Passes, 2 Merits and 4 Distinctions between them.
Russwood’s Managing Director John Russell said, “I am extremely proud of the accomplishments of our team, in achieving this qualification. Naomi, Thea, Gareth and Domenykas showed great commitment and dedication to their studies, particularly given the additional challenges faced with remote learning.” He went on to say “The in-depth knowledge of wood as a material that they have gained from this course only adds to what is already an impressive level of expertise within the team.”
“Our clients’ commitment to our new Covid-safe training methodology has been reflected in these excellent results,” added Woodexperts’ Commercial Manager Jan Antonovics, “and we would like to thank all who were involved, for responding to the practicalities of conducting examinations remotely for the first time, and having the ability to integrate this project into the day-to-day running of their businesses so effectively."
These results bring the number of successful candidates, achieving their Level 4 Certificate in Wood Science and Timber Technology, to almost 100 students: and they come from more than twenty different companies. Students have been Timber Trade managers, sales executives and branch staff: all of whom have achieved this Qualification since it was launched in December 2015.
“Our aim is to bring the highest possible level of science, technology and the understanding of timber and the use of wood as a material to our Industry,” said Woodexperts’ Director, Jim Coulson, “and this will be continuing into 2021, as we have a further 11 students from 5 other timber trade businesses all over the country preparing for another exam next month.”
The next level 4 Certificate examinations will be held at Woodexperts’ purpose-designed training centre in North Yorkshire at the end of May, where another course for up to 10 new students is also due to begin very soon.
