Club members reveal training initiative
Two prominent members of the London Hardwood Club this week revealed a new training initiative due to begin in March 2018. Following a meeting between TFT Woodexperts, of Ripon, North Yorkshire and Tom Barnes, Director of Wootton Bassett – based Vastern Timber, a plan was agreed to use their premises, situated just off the M4 near Swindon, to hold the Level 4 Wood Science and Timber Technology Certificate Course, starting in March next year.
Tom commented; “We have been reviewing our training and educational provision within the company, and when I met Woodexperts on the Confederation of Timber Industries’ stand at Timber Expo recently, it seemed a good idea to work together on this.”
“The purpose-built conference suite, situated within the main office building, but well separated from the day-to-day operation of the business, should prove ideal for holding our training courses”, said Jim Coulson, Woodexperts’ Director. “We have been looking for a Southern venue for our Wood Science courses for some time now, and the idea was to find somewhere more convenient, with a view to reaching out to clients in the South of England and the South West, than our own Head Office in Yorkshire. In a quiet and tranquil rural setting, the conference room forms part of a stunning oak-framed building of an intricate design which nicely showcases the sector. We are looking forward to welcoming delegates from all parts of the timber industry to study there”, he added.
“We are pleased and excited about the opportunity to use this new venue kindly offered to us by Tom and his team,” said Mr Coulson, “and hope this will encourage more Southern-based students to come forward.”
A new course at Wootton Bassett is due to start in March 2018, with a second venue in Central London also now identified. Venues in Scotland and Lincolnshire are also possible, by arrangement. For more information, see our training pages.
